After cutting the insert blank to size, the tone channel is drilled.

The insert is then reamed out to open up the exhaust.

The blank is then placed on a mandrel and turned on the lathe.

I turn the insert down to size using reference marks on the tool rest.

The insert is then wet sanded through 500 grit sandpaper and tung oil applied while still on the lathe.

The insert is then placed in a jig and cut to rough shape on the band saw.

The final shaping is done with files and sandpaper.

A barrel blank is cut to size and then drilled . The end of the barrel is turned to the size of the band and it is glued and pinned in place.

The pins are ground down.

The barrel is placed on another mandrel, turned to final shape, and sanded in the same manner as the insert.

A final finish is applied to both barrel and insert.
